Pet transport from Seattle, and back

Seattle Pet Valet plans pet moves by air to and from Seattle. Most of our customers are moving for work or family and need their dog or cat to arrive safely, without days on the road. A flight gets your pet there in a few hours, whether that is Los Angeles, Anchorage, Honolulu or New York.

Some people want us to handle everything, from the front door in Ballard to the new home in Denver. Others already have a crate and a vet appointment and only need the flight booked and their pet taken to SEA cargo on time. Both are fine: your price only includes what you choose.

Every route works in both directions. Moving to Seattle? We arrange pickup at your home in the other city, book the flight to SEA and arrange delivery anywhere in the Seattle area, including Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Renton, Kent, Federal Way, Tacoma, Burien, Tukwila and more.

What we handle on a move

Every part is optional. Tick the ones you want in the quote form and the price adjusts.

Home pickup in the Seattle area

Your pet is picked up at your door anywhere in the Seattle area, from Bellevue to Tacoma, and taken to SEA airport cargo. The price follows the driving distance from your home to SEA cargo, and the form prices your exact address.

Airport pet transport at SEA

Vet visit and health certificate

The airline needs a health certificate from a licensed vet for every pet in the cargo hold, issued within 10 days of the flight (14 days for Hawaii). We can arrange the ride to your own vet. You pay the vet directly.

Vet health certificate for flying

Airline crate

We suggest the minimum crate size from your pet's measurements and weight, from the 100 series to the 500 series, and sell you a crate ready to fly. The size is always an estimate until your pet is measured in person.

Airline pet crates

Airline cargo booking

We book the cargo space on a flight and at a time that suit your pet, fill in the airline forms and send you the air waybill number so you can follow the trip.

What affects the cost

SEA cargo check-in or airport help

Your pet is checked in at SEA cargo no more than 4 hours before the flight. Flying with your pet instead? We arrange the ride for your pet to the terminal and help at check-in.

SEA drop-off and pickup

The other end of the move

Leaving Seattle, your pet is collected at airport cargo when it lands and brought to your new home. Moving to Seattle, your pet is picked up at home in the other city and brought to your door here after landing at SEA.

More on how it works

Two ways

Your pet flies on its own, or with you

When your pet flies on its own

Your pet travels as airline cargo in an approved crate. This is how most pet moves work, and it suits dogs and cats of every size up to the 500 series crate.

  • We book the cargo space and fill in the airline forms
  • Your pet is picked up at home and checked in at cargo
  • We follow the flight and keep you posted
  • Your pet is collected at cargo and brought to your new home

When you fly with your pet

A small pet can fly in the cabin with you, and a bigger one can travel in the hold on your flight. You book your pet with the airline and pay the airline's pet fee yourself. We help with everything around it.

  • The right airline crate for your pet's size
  • A ride to your vet for the health certificate
  • A ride to SEA for your pet on the day, and help at check-in
  • You travel to the airport separately and meet your pet there

Why door to door

The airline carries your pet from one airport cargo building to another, and nothing more. Someone has to bring your pet to cargo with the right crate and papers, at the right time, and someone has to collect it at the other end within 4 hours of landing, with photo ID. Cargo buildings are not at the passenger terminals, and they are not places for pets to wait.

Door to door means you do not have to be at either airport. Your pet is picked up at home, checked in, flown, collected and brought to your new door, and we keep you posted at every step. If you prefer, someone you choose can collect your pet at cargo instead: just untick that part in the form.

The airline rules we work with

  • Health certificate: Alaska Air Cargo needs a health certificate from a licensed vet for every pet flying in the cargo hold, issued within 10 days of the flight (14 days for dogs and cats going to Hawaii).
  • Temperature: pets fly in the cargo hold generally only when the forecast is between 45°F and 85°F at every airport on the trip. Some cities close to pets for part of the summer.
  • Breeds: snub-nosed dogs and cats cannot fly in the cargo hold. See snub-nosed breeds and flying.
  • Size: pet and crate together up to 150 lb, in a crate up to the 500 series. A pet that needs a bigger crate gets a custom quote.
  • Age: at least 8 weeks old and weaned.
  • Alaska and Hawaii: the airline also needs a rabies certificate. Hawaii has its own entry rules with a rabies blood test, so plan months ahead.

Straight answers

What we do not do

Rides without a move

Home pickup, the vet ride and the airport run are part of a pet move. We do not arrange everyday vet, groomer or daycare trips.

Owners riding along

Owners do not ride along on the rides we arrange. If you are flying with your pet, you travel to the airport separately and meet your pet there.

Birds, reptiles and exotics

Pets that need careful temperature control get a custom quote. Tell us about your pet and we will see what is possible.

Promising a flight

The airline has the final say on space, weather and breed. We tell you honestly what is possible before you book.

End-of-life services

We do not arrange rides to euthanasia appointments or transport to a crematorium. Your vet can point you to services that do this with care.

Pet relocation in Seattle: questions

How much does pet relocation from Seattle cost?
It depends mostly on your pet's size: the airline charges by the weight of your pet and the crate together. The distance from your home to the airport at each end, the crate, a ride to your vet and the time of year count too. Fill in the quote form: on most routes you see your price on screen in about three minutes. When we price by hand, you hear from us within 24 hours. See what affects the cost.
How do pet movers in Seattle ship a dog to another state?
By air, almost always. A dog flying on its own travels as airline cargo, in the hold of a regular passenger flight, in an airline approved crate. The airline only carries pets from airport cargo to airport cargo, so a pet mover books the space, prepares the crate and paperwork, and arranges the pickup and delivery at both ends.
Can my pet fly without me?
Yes. Your pet flies on its own as cargo, so you can fly the same day, a few days later or not at all. Many owners fly first and send their pet once the new home is ready. We plan the timing so someone is ready at each end.
Who picks up and drops off my pet?
We arrange every ride with licensed local pet transport partners, in the Seattle area and in the city at the other end. You get the details and updates from us. Owners do not ride along on the rides we arrange.
How early should I plan the move?
As soon as you know your dates. The health certificate must be done within 10 days of the flight, and your pet needs time to get used to the crate. Hawaii is different: plan at least 2 to 4 months ahead. The blood test result alone can take weeks, and arriving before the waiting period ends means quarantine. See moving pets to Hawaii.
Can my bulldog, pug or Persian cat fly?
Not in the cargo hold. The airline does not accept snub-nosed breeds in the hold, including all bulldogs, boxers, pugs and mastiffs, and Persian, Himalayan, Exotic Shorthair and Burmese cats, mixes included. A small pet can still fly in the cabin with you if its carrier fits under the seat. See snub-nosed breeds and flying.
Can pets fly in summer and winter?
Yes, with limits. From May to mid October, Alaska does not fly pets in the cargo hold when it is forecast to be over 85°F at an airport on the trip, and some cities close to pets for part of the summer. We choose early flights and check the forecast before we confirm. In the colder months a vet acclimation letter is often needed for flights to and from Alaska (when it is below 45°F at an airport on the trip). The vet can add it at the health certificate visit. See summer heat rules.
Do you move birds, reptiles and other pets?
Birds, reptiles and other pets that need careful temperature control get a custom quote. Tell us about your pet in the form and we will see what is possible.
